McPherson College has reached that point in the year where new RAs have been hired. It was a long process with criteria in place to ensure that every hire is someone that will positively impact those that will come to them. They are the people that we come to in our time of need.
The RA serves as a positive role model to residents and peer staff members. The RA enforces the rules and policies of Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services and the College. The RA acts as a liaison between residents and the College administration. This means dedicating hours to something bigger than yourself. It’s not just a job, it’s a demanding lifestyle that comes with costs to the person tasked to bare that responsibility.
A senior RA who wishes not to be named states that “It is a lot of work, but it has let me meet great people. One of the biggest things it taught me was how to deal with people, I am pursuing a career in which I can take the skills I have had to learn here and use them. I wouldn’t change what I have done for anything, because it has helped shape who I have become today.” The senior was proud to say that the people who have been chosen for the next years positions will be great additions to the RA team. One of those additions being Desmond Grayson, who is doing this to not only help students but to help his parents out, stating that “This is a source of income so that my parents don’t have to send me money. This way I am reducing school feels and I am impacting the school and making a good name for myself. I want to leave a legacy here instead of just being another student that went here.” And just like his fellow students, he has a long road ahead of him, along with the support of those who hired him in good faith to do a job that they believe he can do.
