On September 13 and 14, the McPherson College Theatre Department presented their show, “Deliver Us From Mama!” It was the sequel to “Mama Won’t Fly,” which was put on last fall by the department. There were a lot of laughs and it was a strong start to the 2024-25 theater season. A few of the original cast reprised their roles, and many of the original cast members were eager to share about their roles.

Alexis Heckeroth, a sophomore at McPherson College, was one of those who was asked to reprise her role as “Mama,” in the show. Heckeroth stated she was thrilled because she loved playing the character. When asked how she felt working with new people on the set, she said she was honored and “surprised by how dedicated they were to the show, taking their job very seriously.” Heckeroth mentioned she would absolutely do another show in the series if the opportunity ever came about. She also explained that she has always loved making people laugh when she’s on stage, and that is exactly what this series allows her to do.

Another lead in the show was Katie Dix, a junior at McPherson College who played “Savannah,” was also stoked to reprise her role. When asked about her experience working on the show, she said she “enjoyed having all the people around and working on this show.” The college’s record-breaking freshman class was also highly involved in the show. For Dix, that meant working with new people. “After they got into the routine of things, it was lots of fun. They are one of the best freshmen classes to have ever been in the theater department!” Dix stated. She also explained that every show comes with new learning experiences, but overall, it was “simple and fun to bring back what was already there.” When asked if she would ever consider performing in the trilogy, she stated, “Probably not, as it is time to put the series the rest once and for all.”

The McPherson College theater department has a busy season ahead, with two more shows for the fall semester and an additional two in the spring. With all the hard work and dedication everyone is putting in, it is sure to be a spectacular season!
