The horror movie Sinners was an exciting movie from the time the trailer was released to the time it released in theaters, April of 2025. While many people across the United States loved the film, there are a couple of critics that did not think the film did everything that it meant to do in terms of the plot and tonal shifts. I personally loved the film, I loved it so much that I have quite literally watched the film over four times, which is not the norm for me, especially when the film hasn’t been released for an entire year yet.
Some awards that I would like to highlight that the movie earned include are: Golden Trailer, Gotham Independent Film, Grammy, Astra Midseason Movie Award and many more. With that being said, I believe that the movie award list speaks for itself, and that the small amount of criticism doesn’t even come near to the many awards and accolades that the film produced. But they are indeed still there, so I think that it is only fair to value and acknowledge the flaws that some may think that the film showed.
Critics commented on how its slow, superficial, and how it emotionally failed despite having stylish visuals. Every person is entitled to have their own opinion, but something that I would like to know is the age demographic of the individuals who noted those things. I think that matters because some older folks may have been the bad critics, and are like movie people who value those types of things while watching films of this magnitude.
All in all, I love the film. I think Michael B. Jordan, and crew, did a very nice job with the plot and visuals for the film. Hopefully we can get a Sinners spinoff or something similar.
