2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the United States’ foundation. Made official after the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776, the independence of the American colonies from Great Britain constituted a monumental turning point in world history.
Celebrations are planned from Memorial Day to July 4th, with a government initiative called Task Force 250 inviting citizens to have a “renewed love of American history, experience the beauty of our country, and ignite a spirit of adventure and innovation that will raise our nation to new heights over the next 250 years”, according to the U.S. State Department. President Trump said of this milestone, “With a single sheet of parchment and 56 signatures, America began the greatest political journey in human history.”
