The Chaos of NFL Week 1 and 2

The weather is getting colder, the leaves are falling and that means that the NFL season has also kicked off. The NFL season can be hard to keep track of especially when there are 32 teams that play through 18 weeks including a postseason, so here is a recap of what happened in week one and two. The NFL kicked off the year unlike any other with the first game being on a Wednesday, followed by a Thursday Night Football game held in Australia. The opening game was a rematch of the Super Bowl and it had the Seattle Seahawks beating the New England Patriots 13-10. The Seahawks starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, went down with a glute injury allowing Drew Lock to step in and fill his shoes. The Australia game was played by the leading Super Bowl favorites, the Los Angeles Rams, and their division rival, San Francisco 49ers. The Rams were heavy favorites this game with their newest additions to their defensive line, Myles Garrett and Aaron Donald. Despite that, the 49ers won the game 27-7. The players and the coaches were asked about their thoughts on playing in Australia. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan responded with this: “Seventeen games are very tough. Every game is so tough and what you put into it for seven days. So, anytime you’ve got to put more travel on it, it makes it a lot harder.” Week one included other headlines such as the Chicago Bears putting up 59 points on the Carolina Panthers. The Buffalo Bills snuck by the Houston Texans 36-31 and Josh Allen, Buffalo’s Quarterback, had an incredible performance racking up 334 yards and four touchdowns. The Minnesota Vikings put up 22 points in the fourth quarter against the Green Bay Packers leading them to victory 39-22. Week two of the NFL was as chaotic as week one with the biggest headline being that Bears quarterback, Caleb Williams, went down and was carted off the field in their nine to three loss to the Vikings. Fortunately, Williams only suffered a hamstring injury and will be week to week. The injuries dod not stop there unfortunately. The Commander’s quarterback, Jaydan Daniels, suffered an injury on Sunday in their 37-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, where he was carted off as well. Along with the injuries in week two, there were also a lot of surprising results. The Chargers and Texans, who were believed to be top contenders in their division and conference in the AFC are now both 0-2 after week two and their schedules are only getting tougher. On the other end of things, the Las Vegas Raiders, who many believed to be near the bottom end of the league, have started 2-0, after drafting quarterback Fernando Mendoza first overall in the draft. The last headline from week two was the New Orleans Saints beating the Baltimore Ravens 24-17 after being down eight at halftime and being heavy underdogs on the road.
