Winter is here! Which means it’s time for some warm, cozy foods. To me, the one that tops that list is chili. One of the best things about chili is that it usually cooks enough for a lot of people—or leaves you with lots of leftovers. Chili is a warm meal the whole family can enjoy. Here is my family recipe for chili. I hope you take the time to try it and enjoy it.
Ingredients (serves a family of 8):
- 2 cans of black beans
- 2 cans of red kidney beans
- 3 cans of chili beans
- 1 giant (15 oz) can of tomatoes
- Half a diced onion
- 2 pounds of ground beef
- 2 tablespoons of garlic
- 1 packet of chili seasoning
Directions:
- First, cook your ground beef in a saucepan until brown.
- Add garlic and diced onions once the beef is browned.
- Next, take your cans of black beans, red beans, chili beans, and tomatoes and place them in a large pot over medium heat. Add everything—juices and all.
- Combine the ground beef mixture with the bean mixture in the large pot.
- Add your packet of chili seasoning without water. The juices from the beans will do the job and give the chili a thicker consistency. If you prefer a more liquid chili, add a cup of water along with the seasoning.
- Let your chili cook for 30 minutes, allowing the beans to soften. Make sure to stir occasionally so it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot.
I hope you enjoy this chili recipe. It’s one the whole family can enjoy—even picky children.
