What does social media and the internet tell us about Mac’s new Women Basketball coach?
A deep dive in the social media of Alex Moorehead, McPherson’s new Women’s Basketball coach, tells you he came from the Sunshine State, Florida. He has been married to his wife for six years and is the father of two children, while his faith centers him in life each day.
Moorehead played basketball throughout his high school and college years, as well as overseas (Brandon’s Sports Talk, 2024). After playing for his last overseas team in Ireland, he decided to hang up his jersey to try his hand at coaching and spend more time with family.
Moorehead made his coaching debut as Bishop McGuinness High School Basketball Assistant Coach. After coaching for a few years at the high school and college levels and learning the ropes as an assistant coach, he became the 2021 Women’s Head Basketball Coach at Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, Florida (McPherson College Athletics, 2025).
During his time at Ave Maria, Moorehead saw great success, including being named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year for the 2021-2022 season.
A look at Moorehead’s social profiles shows he has a passion for travel, basketball and his family. Not only serving as a coach, he’s also working on a doctoral degree in education from Concordia University Chicago. Additionally comes a passion for volunteering, communication, and Oklahoma City.
In an interview conducted by Brandon’s Sports Talk in 2024, Moorehead has expressed his feelings for being competitive, not being an underdog, learning from experiences, making connections, and helping his players advance their basketball IQ.
Moorehead feels the key to a successful program is being present in the moment and finding the right players to build a sustainable program. As for his coaching staff, he believes in finding genuine people with the right character, as well as coaches who are invested in the players.
While head coach is his job title, it’s clear Moorehead is living his perfect dream every day.
