After three years of operating virtually, McPherson’s Alternative Christmas Gift Market is returning as a live event.
Set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 11, at The Cedars Activities Center, 1021 Cedars Drive, the annual market will provide attendees with the opportunity to browse through charities’ displays and then to make “gift” donations in honor of family and friends. Last year’s market raised more than $22,000.
The market is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
This year’s market will feature 17 organizations whose missions address the basic human needs of food, water, shelter, and peace. “Connected,” a fair-trade store in Lindsborg, will be selling handmade goods from small cooperatives from around the world.
Participating charities include CASA: a Voice for Children; Cedars Resident Assistance Fund; Center for Caring and Peace Initiatives; Connected; Haiti Medical Project; Heart to Heart Child Advocacy Center; Live Free Ministries; McPherson Area Habitat for Humanity; McPherson Coalition for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity; McPherson Community Teen Center; McPherson Community Fridge Project; McPherson County Food Bank; McPherson Housing Coalition; Mobility Worldwide Kansas/PET; New Community Project; Set Free; and STEP MC.
For convenience, attendees may write one check to support multiple organizations, if they choose to do so. The funds will be distributed, as designated, through the McPherson County Community Foundation.
