Free Guy

If you like video games and Ryan Reynolds, then “Free Guy” is the movie for you! “Free Guy” made its theatrical debut on Aug. 13, 2021 and hammered the box office with $97 million in less than a month. This movie is must-see. Guy (Ryan Reynolds) had a pretty average life. When he wakes up, he talks to his fish, gets dressed, orders the same coffee and goes to work at a bank that gets robbed multiple times a day. Sounds like a normal day in a normal world, right? No! Guy is a Non-Player Character (NPC) in a game called Free City. He had no idea that he was in a game until he came across a woman in sunglasses (Jodie Comer). She broke his worldview which leads him down a whirlpool of comedy, chaos, drama, and beating up people GTA style.

This movie had so many creative dialogues and scenes, which made the whole thing worth watching over and over. There were multiple cameos that Gen Z could recognize, like JackSepticEye, DTM, Pokimane and even Ninja popped up a few times in the movie. This gave the movie a bit more character because these were gamers in the IRL world. So many memes and references were mentioned, adding some charm and letting the audience feel more included due to the wide knowledge of pop culture in the current generation.

I personally think that “Free Guy” is one of the best movies that has come out this year and, in my heart, one of the best films ever. I’m pretty biased due to my love for video games and Ryan Reynolds but the movie deserves all the praise in the world. They put a lot of effort and thought into the movie, even though others say it was lazily made, which I highly disagree with. The concept of focusing on a simple NPC and wondering what they think is so cool. Then making the NPC the main character in a film is even cooler. Like I said, you need to watch this movie, you won’t regret it.
