Though the McPherson College women’s soccer season is over, it is extremely evident that next year they are coming back bigger and better. The team was filled with many transfers, and only eight returning players this year. In addition, they had a new head coach who had previously been the assistant coach, Mark Olson and assistant coach from Houston, Texas, and a past student at McPherson, Francis Flemawhle. Overall, the team ended in the seventh seed for the KCAC tournament with a 7-10 record for the season. Sadly, the Bulldogs were eliminated in the first playoff game against the nationally ranked team Ottawa University.
Even with a somewhat of a rough season, the Bulldogs had five honorable mentions for the KCAC and one player named second-all team. Senior forward and flank player, Danielle Kakebeen was the player named second all-team KCAC. In addition, senior captain Ana Guerrero, sophomore Emma van Donselaar, junior Adriana Reyes, junior captain Alexis Lynn, and Freshman Christie Silber received honorable mentions from the KCAC coaches. Emma van Donselaar stated: “ I was really excited and grateful to hear I was voted, it’s an honor to be apart of this. Next year it’s time to work on our overall record and playoffs for nationals”
The girls begin their offseason training in February 2018 after the interterm semester. They will also play six Vs. six against the other colleges in the springtime. They will work through this time to get to their goals for next year: which is the NAIA national championships.
