The highly anticipated presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump occurred Tuesday the 10th. The debate was held in Cleveland, Ohio, where millions of viewers tuned in watching the candidates battle over key issues ranging from the economy and immigration to healthcare and foreign policy.

Harris continuously made claims of the Biden administration’s successes in the economic recovery, as well as healthcare expansion, and even climate change initiatives. She made a point to outline her plans on how she is going to continue the work the current administration has started as well as bolstering the middle-class, improving access to education and addressing racial inequality. “The American people deserve leadership that prioritizes them, not the wealthiest one percent,” she stated.

Trump, countered with criticism of both Harris and the Biden administration. He made accusations of the current administration mishandling the US economy, as well as weakening our foreign policy. He then defended his record as President and his administrations work by stating accomplishments by his office such as job creation, tax cuts and even national security. He stated that he is the only candidate that can restore, “America’s greatness.” And in true fashion he continued to express his displeasure with the current border situation.

During the debate, both candidates would throw frequent personal jabs and constantly interrupt one another that escalated as the night went on. This debate continues the notion that our political system is greatly divided not just on policy, but towards one another, which can result in a very interesting election cycle.
