Students involved in MacMedia have received a major quality-of-life upgrade. Previously located in Beeghly Hall, the MacPoint Lab has moved to Mohler 229. Though much smaller, there is no shortage of comfort and functionality in this new home base for newspaper nerds and podcast people.
Throughout the fall semester, professor Becki Bowman and communication seniors Ford Kuhnel, Kurtis Ebling and Cynarah Rodriquez transformed the room from bland beige to a modern media lab with the power of paint, patterned wallpaper and positive attitudes.
The west wall was given a fashionable brick-pattern print, while the other walls received fresh coats of paint. Almost all the furniture is new, starting with two bar tables accompanied by tall metal chairs. A couch and a loveseat were also added with two red ottomans. A warm striped rug frames this lounge area.
MacMedia staff can watch news or host journalistic movie nights with the TV centered on the east wall. Motivational signs hang around the room and two posters of Bulldog puppies watch over the computers. Massive windows provide sunlight for plants and these little green friends are perfect company, whether the staff are watching the news, editing stories or creating the layout for the next issue.
This renovated space will encourage camaraderie among staff and provide a place to work and relax. Despite the short time our senior renovators have to enjoy it before they graduate, their hard work will be appreciated for many semesters to come.
