On Aug. 24, former President Donald Trump surrendered himself to Georgia authorities for arrest. Even though he stated that he did nothing wrong, the former US President is facing 98 indictments in both state and federal courts. This includes an indictment for alleged attempted election meddling in Fulton County, Georgia relating to the 2020 Presidential election. The trial will decide whether the former President trying to coerce the Governor of Georgia to find 11,780 votes to swing the county is considered election interference. The phone call between the former President and the Georgia Governor was followed by claims from numerous Republicans that the election was fraudulent, and culminated in a mob of Trump supporters storming the capital on Jan. 6, 2021.

The District Attorney of Fulton County has set a trial date for the former President on March 2, 2024. Originally planned for Jan. 2, the trial was pushed back due to conflicts with another one of Trump’s existing legal battles. Trump has repeatedly stated that he’s not guilty and has accused the Justice Department of pursuing the case against him as a “witch hunt.” In addition, Republican representatives have been critical, such as Sarah Palin saying, “Do you want us to be in civil war? Because that’s what’s going to happen. We’re not going to put up with this.” The Georgia trial won’t be the only trial that Trump must endure, with one of the other trials being set for March 25, 2024. The trial results likely won’t come out before the Fall of 2024, during which Trump has stated he will likely run again, against both the incumbent Democratic President, Joe Biden, as well as Republican challenger and current Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis. Either way, no one can say the next election won’t be eventful.
