What is Mac Entertainment?

Mac Entertainment is the newest student organization on campus this year, and everyone is wondering what it is. Mac Entertainment is the new programming committee on campus and it has taken over many of the responsibilities that another student org, SAB, had in the past. While some have compared SAB and Mac Entertainment as the same student organization, they are in fact completely separate. Myles Sandolph is the new Director of Engagement and Belonging here at McPherson College and is the lead of Mac Entertainment. In an interview, he describes it as a student organization that “is trying to want to set a bigger intentionality of really trying to wrap all the students in we’re doing things that will include the AR students, that can bring them together along with the athletes, which is very rare to see—that kind of collaboration across campus and departments.”

Overseeing the organization, Sandolph wanted to make sure that the students’ voices were heard during the process of this rebranding and were being compensated fairly for the work they were doing. Sandolph wanted to explain the “expectations moving forward with [Mac Entertainment] and seeing if they were all on board with it. Some people weren’t because of how some things ended and Sarah Wood leaving… and some people just enjoyed doing the planning and everything, so some stayed on. It was just a lot of open communication with them, making sure that they’re behind the mission and that they’re behind the new name, and changing what we want to do moving forward.”

Sandolph’s favorite thing about the rebrand of Mac Entertainment was the introduction of the MC Red Zone, the tailgates that happen before some of the Bulldog Athletics games. Sandolph says he loves to “see students come out to that and enjoy it. We have different themes, and then the students end up going to the game. The intention was to increase school spirit as well. Having students go and support our teams—because volleyball and football are doing exceptionally well right now—is really exciting.” When asked about the future of Mac Entertainment, Sandolph says he is hoping to create “new traditions” on campus that will “develop to be a yearly thing.”
