The Light & Life awards ceremony is about giving gratitude and recognition towards honorable students and staff who help contribute value towards the school. This ceremony is presented once a year by the Student Government Association to acknowledge advisors, students, college community members, sports teams, clubs, and organizations. This event features awards like “Bridge Builder,” “First-Year Student of the Year,” “Greatest Leap,” and many more awards for the workers of this campus. This type of event is excellent because it not only makes students and staff feel uplifted towards their worth, but it also shows the type of impact they’ve had on those around them, meaning they represent the concept of positivity.
Over the years of the life of McPherson College, the Light & Life awards have put great acknowledgement towards a diverse group of individuals. Each grantee is selected based on how they’ve shown their commitment to this institution, their power to influence and inspire others, and their impact on the people around them. The votes are processed through the selection by their peers and evaluations by a committee that judges their contributions and alignments with what the college values.
The awards have been and always will be a special tradition at McPherson College, showing the college’s dedication to keeping the entire of the community nurtured which gives credit towards its leadership and service. By recognizing those who embody these ideal roles, the Light & Life awards celebrate individual achievement and encourage others who are younger and maybe even older to follow in their positive footsteps which foster a culture of giving and engagement within and beyond the institution.
My personal excitement for this event taking place on April 13th is so much to bear. Being able to witness who will be honored for these awards will be great to remember once the event passes by. I can’t wait until the day comes.
