The newest sport on campus, the women’s bowling team, has had an exciting start to the spring portion of their season, starting with a trip to the Kegel Midwest Collegiate Classic in Chicago. Being a prestigious Tier One tournament, our girls learned a lot from watching the other teams and seeing some impressive competition. Taking what they learned from Chicago and gearing up for the next weekend, where they traveled to Belton, MO, paid off as they took home the historic first win for the program on Saturday and proceeded to place 3rd on Sunday. The girls have had a very busy last few weeks, competing back-to-back since the first weekend after classes were resumed.

Adding to the excitement of the first win for the inaugural team, the program was admitted to the Hoosier Classic tournament in Indianapolis, which is coined as the most prestigious, and last, tournament held in the regular season. For being a first-year program, this is very impressive, and many congratulations are going out to the team for getting admitted. They have been putting in the work during the weeks and grinding out tournaments on the weekends ending the traveling streak on the 2nd, as they get a weekend off and prepare to compete in Indianapolis on the 15th.

The bowling season is unusually long for collegiate sports, starting in October and not ending until April with the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) singles and team championships. The team travels every other weekend if not every weekend. They truly exemplify the meaning of student-athletes by achieving a team GPA of 3.3 while constantly being on the road. The girls are putting in the hard work this season, and it has been showing.
