McPherson College Students Share Their Thoughts on Living at the Cedars
Anyone on the McPherson College campus will tell you that there has been some chatter surrounding the new Maxwell Housing at McPherson College. Many students at McPherson jump at the chance to get out of a dorm and into their own living space, so this new option received a lot of attention. Maxwell was a new addition to the 2024-2025 school year housing options, so here are some things you might want to know before moving in.
Maxwell is located five blocks from the school on the north side of Cedar Ridge on Maxwell Street. Maxwell was previously a senior living home, but McPherson College bought two units that can house up 50 students in a co-ed living situation. According to the McPherson College website, Maxwell features two bed suites with their own private bathroom and a very large common area and kitchen. Maxwell hall will offer key card access, furniture, security cameras, free wi-fi, free laundry, great parking and a separate temperature gauge for each. The living area was recently renovated and cleaned for the McPherson College students.
Not only does Maxwell have great living opportunities, but students also get the chance to have intergenerational interactions with residents at the Cedars. The CEO of Cedars, LaMonte Rothrock, said in a statement, “We are excited about this relationship and plan for college students to spend time with our residents to enrich both groups’ lives.”
I recently talked to a couple students at McPherson College who are currently living in Maxwell. One of these students was Quaran Mckinney, a sophomore who is living at Maxwell with a roomate. Mckinney said, “I was super happy to get out of the dorms and into my own space. I had my doubts about Maxwell at first, but in the end, I am very happy to live here. It has great space for my things, nice bathrooms for ourselves and a big kitchen.” Mckinney’s experiences directly correlate with the goals McPherson College had for the space!
The second student, Calvin Doyle, is currently living a Maxwell Hall. I specifically asked Doyle if he had any issues with Maxwell, and he responded, “I don’t see any issues here. It’s very nice with all the amenities and private bathrooms.” In fact, Doyle wasn’t able to say a single negative thing about Maxwell Hall! These statements reflect the student’s honest views on their living space.
If you want a closer look at Maxwell Hall, hurry over to the north units of the Cedars, and talk to Shak Joseph about availability. If you’re tired of dorm life and cramped living, Maxwell Hall is the place for you!
