McPherson College has myriad resources available to students, all aiming to help students in completing their degrees and doing well. Focusing on individual student achievement is something that McPherson College is proud to advertise. One of these resources accessible to students is the Writing Center, located on the main level of Miller Library. The mission of the Writing Center is to support students through all stages of the writing process to create a paper that the writers feel confident in. Tutors in the center are versed in the skills needed to walk students through their papers and recommend changes and additions to the writing. Bev Nye, the new Coordinator of the Writing Center, said: “My goal is to provide a user-friendly, writing-improvement service for all students. My tutors and I believe that every student, no matter how accomplished, can improve their writing by sharing their work in progress and revising based on constructive criticism. The student/clients can sit down with a capable tutor for a 30-minute appointment. They will be treated with respect and will leave, hopefully, with ways to improve their paper.” If a student wants to set up an appointment with a tutor through the Writing Center, all they need to do is scan the Penji QR codes posted in the library (and to the right) and set an appointment time that works best for them. The app features not only a scheduling tool but also a messaging feature that can be used to contact tutors. If you are feeling lost on a paper and need guidance or simply want to check your grammar, make an appointment to stop in the Writing Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday or 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.
