Former Congressman Beto O’Rourke has caught a lot of attention in the past year running against Ted Cruz for the Texas senate seat, where he lost by only 200,000 votes. This election helped boost him into the national spotlight. Recently, O’Rourke decided to run for president in the 2020 election. Many democrats are rallying behind O’Rourke, some even considering him the savior of the democratic party, believing he will beat Donald Trump in the election. Yet, O’Rourke has proven that he does not have the beliefs to be president.
O’Rourke has had a lot of strong statements about the U.S.’s southern border. In his campaign video, O’Rourke said, “If immigration is a problem, it’s the best possible problem for this country to have.” O’Rourke did not specify if he meant illegal immigration or all immigration, but he has been adamant in years past that we should have open borders with Mexico. During an interview with MSNBC, O’Rourke admitted that if he had control, he would waste tax payer’s money to tear down the current border fence. If this were to happen it would cripple our country’s safety by making it easier for drug and gun smugglers, sex traffickers and gang members to reach cities all over our country.
Public opinion of police has drastically changed in the past decade, partly due to divisive democrats like O’Rourke. O’Rourke has preached to his supporters that police all over America are going around shooting blacks “solely based on the color of their skin.” While many democrats will argue how true this is, it has been shown year after year that more whites are killed by police each year. He finished his statement by calling these racial shootings the “modern jim crow.” Comments like these are dividing our country and are hurting the American people as much as the democratic party’s original Jim Crow laws. He has praised police in the past at times, but he shows his true colors when he’s attacking police and telling supporters that they need to fight the justice system. When it comes to O’Rourke’s criminal justice thoughts, he has shown nearly complete disrespect for our boys in blue. This could be because he is a criminal himself having a record containing a car accident caused by him drinking and driving, where he reportedly tried to flee the scene.
While these are just a few reasons why O’Rourke is a terrible candidate, there are plenty more once you look into his views, where you’ll see no support for gun rights but unconstitutional support for universal healthcare. O’Rourke puts on the façade of fighting for Americans, but it’s as if he’s trying to divide America in hopes of ruining the country’s laws, traditions and the well-being of the American people.
