On Saturday, September 20, 2025, the McPherson County Cat House held their eighth annual Cattyshack Golf Tournament at Turkey Creek Golf Course.

The tournament was what’s known as a four-player scramble. According to the St. Cloud Country Club website, a four-player scramble is defined as a style of golf where team captains choose the best shot from the first stroke and use the same spot for each player for each hole.

The McPherson Cat House, formerly known as the McPherson County Humane Society, is a local organization dedicated to rescuing and finding proper homes for former stray and displaced cats. The Cattyshack, in addition to other fundraisers and donations, is one of the fundraising events the Cat House uses to support their efforts.

Executive Shelter Director Erin Eskilvsen stated that the first Cattyshack fundraiser was in 2018. The event makes the shelter around six to eight thousand dollars each year, and with “kitten season”, as Eskilvsen calls it, the money makes a huge difference when business is in full swing during that time of year.

Two of the three items the Cat House is the most in need of — dry and wet kitten food — specifically meet the needs of the animals. The third item the shelter needs the most at all times of the year is unscented clay camping cat litter.

When given the chance, cats can add additional love, laughter, and comfort to a home. The Cat House wishes to expand these possibilities to more cats.

The Cat House needs community support to make the vision happen, and any donation helps to expand this joyous opportunity not only to the cat but to the person too.
