Skylights
I looked at the stars and you promised me a skylight.
I knew I wanted to stay with you in the moment forever. I could picture it: two chairs and a room of windows, I could stare at the stars, and you at me with wonder in your eyes of how someone could love something so far away.
When I looked at the stars, I showed you Orion and I told you I loved you.
The stars in my eyes reflected the wonder in yours.
I love the stars with all my being, but I think I love you more.
Spring Flowers
Like a wildflower in spring, I picked you. I wanted no one else.
My favorite flower of the whole bunch, lucky to spot you first and claim you as my own.
You may have stayed in the vase on the counter, but you were my first love too.
Someone to talk to, share my thoughts, feelings, fears with.
So many options, but you are the only one I want.
I pick you.
Unspoken Truths
Cowards, the both of us, waiting for the other to move first. Too scared to make the wrong move, to mess up such a great thing we have.
A sad game of chess, neither person willing to put their king in a vulnerable place to win the game.
Too scared to say the words out loud, to make them real.
I Love You.
Do you love me too?
Forgiveness
When the trees rustle and the wind blows,
Changes in the seasons is how it goes.
From old to new,
Me to you,
We have seen it all, you know it’s true.
New greenery, but also decay,
Bright light and cool shade.
I feel the sun on my skin,
A kiss or embrace, lingering softly
From decisions and dreams.
Past, future, everything in between.
From love to trauma, I’ve seen it all
As the seasons change from summer to fall.
We can all learn to forgive one another,
Learning from the seasons changing together.
Favorite Place
When I escape from the summer heat
I know it will be with you
The good times
And the bad too,
I trust with you to
Carry me through all the
Toil and trouble life has in store
When my heart is heavy and thoughts
Vacate my mind
I know I can trust you
To ease my pain.
Our connection so strong even
Hundreds, thousands of miles away.
You are always there for me
No matter the time change
I will never forget the lazy days
We spent together.
Like sisters one day we will find a way
To be reunited again.
In heart and mind you will always stay
though I long to have you by my side
Arm in arm through life’s challenges.
Outside
Outside looking in
Under pressure to fit into society
Secretly hoping no one sees
Inside my mind, the thoughts and feelings I hide
Daring me to break through
Ever quietly the voice whispers
