They say the automotive field is vast and diverse enough that everyone can find a car they love. Simply put, there’s something for everyone. Morgan Moravec fell in love with the cars that people love to see on the road but don’t often own for themselves–cars that are unique and stand out.
Moravec first saw a Mitsubishi 3000GT SL in high school, and realized that one day, she wanted to own one too. That opportunity arose when she stumbled across a Mitsubishi 3000GT SL from 1998 listed on Facebook Marketplace in Wichita earlier this semester.
After looking at the car, Moravec decided to pull the trigger and purchase it. She brought it back to McPherson where she has been working on it ever since. It had been sitting for several months when she bought it, and the head gaskets leaked. She is currently working on pulling the cylinder heads with plans for a full engine rebuild soon.
The car is black with a beige interior, but Moravec would like to eventually repaint the car to a black crystal amethyst and reupholster the seats with a black and purple color scheme. To match this color scheme, she wants to add purple detailing to the dashboard, air intake, and brakes. Once the car is running and driving, she plans on bringing it to car shows, and hopes it will be included in the upcoming McPherson College Annual Car Show in May of 2025.
For now, she will continue to drive her 1984 Nissan 240Z daily. After she graduates, she sees herself going into the niche space of automotive design and hopefully doing pinstriping work. But, for now, between the Mitsubishi and Nissan, she remains busy with projects.
