Abigail Coe has long had a passion for Honda. A huge part of her affinity for this specific type of car is due to their customizable nature, and the overall styling. It started when she purchased a Honda Prelude in High School. Though she doesn’t own that specific car anymore, she currently owns two other Hondas – a 1987 Civic Hatchback and a 1997 Prelude that she just purchased. She has owned the Civic for a little over a year now and bought it with the intention of it being a project car. When she purchased it it ran – although not very well and was plagued by rod knock. In addition, the brakes were seized and the car was filled with mouse nests. Since acquiring the car she has replaced all the vacuum lines, rebuilt the brakes and carburetor, and cleaned up the interior. She was able to change out the rod bearings with the engine still in the car. As of right now, her goal is to get it driving. Future plans for the car include new paint, an engine swap to a B or D series engine, new wheels, and upgrading the car to performance parts. She showed the Civic at the McPherson Car Show this past May and hopes to include it again next year. After graduating, Abigail plans to tour Asia – specifically Japan to learn more about the car culture there.
