A new abortion clinic was recently opened in the small college town of Pittsburg, Kansas. The clinic is one of four Planned Parenthood Great Plains locations in the state. Kansas is one of the only states in the Midwest region in which abortion is legal with no restrictions or bans.
In August of 2022, shortly after the overturning of Roe V. Wade, Kansas held a statewide vote in which one of the issues voters were deciding on was whether or not to legalize abortion in the state going forward. Kansans voted in favor of legalizing, with it now being allowed until 22 weeks of gestation. The new clinic is the first abortion/reproductive health clinic operated by Planned Parenthood Great Plains opened in the state since the 2022 ruling. According to AP News, one of who’s correspondents went and toured the clinic and spoke to residents of Pittsburg, most college students in the town support the clinic.
The Planned Parenthood website states the clinic will not only offer abortion services (both medication and procedural), but also access to emergency contraception, STD and HIV testing, birth control, and pregnancy testing and services. The clinic is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 AM to 6 PM, with the exception being Friday when they open at 10 AM.
