Kendric Lamar took the internet by storm when released his single “Not Like Us” earlier this year and has remained in the public eye ever since. According to Forbes’s Huge McIntyre, states that the song has been the Billboard’s rap song with the largest number of listens for twenty nonconsecutive weeks and is tied with Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’s “Old Town Road” for the longest amount of time in the number one spot on the Billboard’s ranking. Lamar’s “Not Like Us” is a diss track, a product of the feud going on between Drake and Kendric Lamar.
According to E.J. Landrum, a McPherson College student who calls himself a “die-hard Drake fan”, the feud is a “publicity scheme” so both artists can spend time in the media spotlight. The scheme appears to have worked, as the song has become Lamar’s most popular, and possibly has resulted in Lamar being the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime performer. According to U.S.A. Today writers Cydney Henderson and Brenden Morrow, the performance is scheduled for February 9th of next year.
Many people watch the Superbowl, and many people listen to Lamar’s music, including McPherson College students. E.J. Landrum says that the people in charge of the Super Bowl are always going to want a popular artist to be the halftime performer. As football fans and Lamar fans look forward to this point in the season, many people are starting to wonder if Lamar will perform “Not Like Us” during his halftime performance. Others question if Drake will try to prevent the song from being played at the event because the Super Bowl would just provide a bigger stage for the drama to unfold upon.
A recent article by Sam Moore of HipHopDX reported that Lamar recently was hit by a cease-and-desist order from Drake that involved Lamar performing the song at the Super Bowl. The accusation was later found to be false according to Tamantha Ryan from Exclusive. However, during a party hosted by Tyrone Edwards, Drake spoke to the crowd about “fake friends” and according to TMZ, this outburst could be related to Lamar.
E.J. Landrum stated that he thinks the Super Bowl would be the perfect time for both artists to monopolize on the feud. In fact, Landrum explained that he thinks this would be the perfect time for Drake to drop a diss track of his own. Although much of the situation is still quite muddy, all of the drama has made one thing certain: a lot of people will be watching the halftime show regardless of which teams make their way to the Superbowl.
