The tragic death of “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman in 2020 left a massive emptiness in the Marvel Universe, with no project more impacted than the sequel to his groundbreaking 2018 film, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” T’Challa (Boseman), the nation of Wakanda’s ruler and protector, dies in “Wakanda Forever.” The film goes in-depth into the aftermath of Wakanda’s unexpectedly vacant throne and the power struggle it creates — both within the country and globally.
T’Challa’s mother, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), and sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright), deal with their grief in very different ways, but they are soon confronted with another challenge when the ruler of Talokan, Namor (Tenoch Huerta Meja), threatens Wakanda. The ensuing conflict puts Wakanda’s royal family and their allied forces to the test and places the entire nation at a crossroads in its history.
I was going to rate the film a 9/10 until the final credit scene which pushed me over the edge, so I have to give it a 10/10. It had me practically bawling. One of my favorite parts about this movie is how many strong women are portrayed in the film. The three main characters the film follow are all women, who fight and lead. Following that, would be the humor in the movie. Even though there are many serious moments they find many times to throw in jokes and sarcastic remarks. It was one of the most emotional journeys taken by any MCU film that appears to be a victory for the film, which clearly prioritized the other over a more classical entry in Marvel’s interconnected universe. If you are a Marvel fan, you will have to see it and decide how you feel about the movie without Chadwick Boseman being in it. All in all, lots of action, sadness and humor.
