In August 2018, Athletic Director Andrew Ehling announced the newest hire in the athletic department: new softball head coach Tony Segovia. Segovia comes from Friends University where he led the Falcons to a remarkable 454-212 record with 9 KCAC conference championships over a span of 14 years. A 2000 graduate of McPherson College, Segovia returns to his alma mater to continue his impressive coaching career. “It’s always home. Anywhere you go and have spent 10 years of your life there, it’s always going to be home,” explained Segovia. With seven all-conference players returning, the Bulldog softball team looks to have a very successful season. Coach Segovia stated he was most excited to see all the hard work his players have put in over the past six months pay off. He continued, saying preseason practice has looked really good, “I believe we’re getting the most out of them without overworking them.” Overall, the transition for Segovia from Friends to McPherson has been a smooth one, leaving us waiting to see just how good this Bulldog softball team will be this year.
