With the 2024 presidential election results of the November 5th election day, students on campus have expressed how they are affected and are feeling about the official results.

On November 5, former President Donald J. Trump was elected to serve as the 47th president of the United States of America after a long campaign season. When interviewing McPherson College students, many reactions were spread out between positive and negative connotations of the results of Trump’s achievement. One student anonymously says, “There are positives and negatives to both candidates but I think that is what creates a divide in the country.”

Many of the students have mentioned ideas of a divide in the country between the two candidates of the 2024 election.

“Social Media shapes perception of the candidates, think of the cats and dogs meme of Trump,” one student speaks in regards to media representation.

“Through posts, stories, videos and more people are constantly in a battle trying to belittle the opinions of others.”

With this year’s election being largely affected by the young generation and first time voters, social media was something important that candidates had to represent themselves for. Other students were particularly happy with the result due to economical reasons that had been discussed through the campaign, with one student saying they are excited for the changes that Trump has promised and believe he will help make living more affordable and bring a brighter future for America.

In perspective of Vice President Harris, students have touched on topics of minority representation saying they are saddened by the loss of representation from a woman of color that developed from a middle class past.

“Although there are positives to Trump’s presidency, Kamala could have been more progressive in representation and rights of Americans”, says another student on the results.
