On Sunday, March 24, the Lady Bulldogs softball team faced Friends University in a double header for conference standings. Pitching for the Bulldogs was Christie Betker, where she earned her 501 career strikeout as a Bulldog. Game one began with offensive toughness as Jessica Jones got on base with a walk and was moved by a sacrificial bunt by Kylecia Taylor. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were unable to score, but the intensity and energy remained from the strong first offensive efforts. A few innings later, Destiny Bacon began the inning with a base hit. Taylor Perez utilized a sacrifice bunt, moving Destiny to second base. Chelsea Conrad bunted for a base hit and was safe on first. Kylecia Taylor hit a base hit through first and second, pushing two runs across for the Bulldogs. The third run was gained from a base hit by Maile Deutsch, which scored Taylor. This would prove to be vital, as the Bulldogs won 3-0. The second game resulted in a tough loss for the Bulldogs. Pitching in the beginning of the game for Mac was Brittany Baroni. Though their intensity and energy was high, the Lady Bulldogs struggled to score runs. Baroni held the Falcons for several innings with very few hits, and only two runs. The Falcons came back in game two with a new kind of motivation, though, and immediately scored one run in the first inning. It wasn’t until the sixth inning that the Falcons were able to score again. The Bulldogs switched pitchers in the seventh inning. The Falcons adjusted quickly and pummeled the defense with six more runs. With their last chance to score at hand, the Bulldogs managed to score 3 runs, but unfortunately were unable to return the damage. The final score was 8-3 Falcons. The next games for the Bulldogs are scheduled for April 13 against Sterling College.
