He was once one of the most trusted sports physician to Olympic gymnast’s, but now that trust is long gone for Larry Nassar. Not to mention that people have now even lost their jobs for placing so much trust in him, which allowed him to commit crime after crime, for far too many years. Larry Nassar not only held a position as a Michigan State University doctor but was also a USA Gymnastics doctor. Nassar held the trust of not only parents but also the young women that he treated. But for over two decades he sexually abused not only women, but young girls as well. Larry Nassar admitted to using his trusted medical position to assault and molest girls under the guise of medical treatment. On January 24th 2018, Nassar was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison for sexually abusing more than 150 women and girls. Nassar pleaded guilty to seven counts of criminal sexual conduct in Ingham County in Michigan (Levenson).

There was a total of 156 victims that spoke about their horrifying experience with Larry Nassar. Within that massive number of victims, their ages all varied. The youngest victim was the now 15-year-old Emma Ann Miller. Emma had been receiving treatment from Nassar at the age of 10 for a back injury, before things sadly went downhill. Other well-known Olympic gymnast such as; Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, and McKayla Maroney were also victims of Larry Nassar. It is said that one of the reasons why all of the victims did not speak about the sexual abuse is because they were “trained” to stay quiet about it all. We know that Larry Nassar is somebody’s son, husband, and even a father of three. But now, all Nassar will be remembered as is the man who forever changed the lives of hundreds of women, and even lead to the ending of several them. His name will forever be synonymous with words like rape and sexual abuse, and will live in infamy for years and years to come.
